Modular synthesis is a particularly flexible method of synthesis involving the 'patching' of various modular components in an open architecture environment. This allows the creation of sounds not possible by any other method of synthesis, such as real world sounds. Looking for ways to improve your sounds or mixes? Adding audio effects can help to fill out the spaces in your mix and bring sounds to the front. As too much of a good thing can also be detrimental, effects should be used sparingly. Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) is the industry standard communication protocol that allows electronic musical instruments to communicate and interact with each other. This page covers everything from the basics, through to MIDI messages and the General MIDI specification.
